Lifetime Movie ‘Aaliyah: The Princess Of R&B,’ Gets Mocked On Twitter

Most people expected the Lifetime movie Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B to be bad. Well, they were right. The Lifetime movie was relentlessly mocked last night on Twitter.

The biopic was in trouble from the beginning. Aaliyah’s family refused to give Lifetime the right to use the late singer’s music and Zendaya Coleman, who was originally scheduled to star in the film, caused a delay in production when she dropped out of the cast.

The music was bad but the story was worse. Aaliyah fans thought they were tuning in to watch a biopic but the Aaliyah movie wasn’t really concerned with factual events.

Jezebel writes: “Once you realize that this is less a biopic and merely “slightly based on a true story, sort of,” you might lighten up. Whereas Vh1’s great-in-comparison biopic, Crazy Sexy Cool: The TLC Story, opted for true-to-life scenes procured from the people involved, the facts here are completely distorted.” 

Twitter also ridiculed some of Lifetime’s casting choices and started the #lifetimebelike hashtag to invent future bad Lifetime movie ideas.
