President Obama’s victory tweet became the most retweeted post ever, accomplishing the feat in just 22 minutes. The tweet was a simple picture of him and first lady Michelle Obama hugging, with the caption “Four more years.”

Obama had a decisive victory against Republican challenger Mitt Romney on Tuesday, with Romney conceding the election just after midnight.

The Obama camp also posted the photo to Facebook, where it has received over 2.5 million likes, 120,000 comments, and 293,000 shares.

Mitt Romney’s camp took to social media after conceding the election to Obama with a picture that simply read “thank you.” Both politicians have leaned heavily on Facebook and Twitter to spread their message throughout the campaign season. They have also used social media to encourage people to vote on Tuesday, even posting requests for users to encourage their friends to vote as well.
