Rihanna Slams CBS For Pulling ‘Thursday Night Football’ Song

The NFL is in full damage control mode after the Ray Rice / Adrian Peterson / Greg Hardy debacle and one decision has Rihanna ticked off.

CBS decided last week to pull Rihanna’s song from the “Thursday Night Football” broadcast. The network said that Rihanna’s song, as well as a comedy sketch that was also pulled, didn’t fit with the serious tone of last week’s broadcast.

CBS Sports chairman Sean McManus told SI.com: “We thought journalistically and from a tone standpoint, we needed to have the appropriate tone and coverage … A lot of the production elements we wanted in the show are being eliminated because of time or tone.”

But now that an entire week has gone by, CBS apparently feels that it’s OK to lighten the mood and play some pop music before “Thursday Night Football” this week.

Well, Rihanna doesn’t want that to happen.

Rihanna clearly doesn’t want CBS to use her song, a rendition of Jay-Z’s Run This Town, during this week’s broadcast but it’s unclear if the network has to listen. CBS Sports has not commented on Rihanna’s tweet yet.

UPDATE: CBS announced that it will not be using Rihanna for this week’s broadcast.

CBS senior vice president of communications Jen Sabatelle in a statement: “Beginning this Thursday, we will be moving in a different direction with some elements of our Thursday Night Football open. We will be using our newly created Thursday Night Football theme music to open our game broadcast.”
