#Remember911: Brands Use Hashtag To Plug Products

Viral marketing is a very tricky game. We all know that company’s jump on viral hashtags in order to get their products in front of more eyes, but some hashtags should be left alone. Like ones that discuss horrifying stories of domestic abuse. Or ones that commemorate the anniversary of 9/11.

Several brands have taken to Twitter today to use hashtags like #Remember911, #911Anniversary, or #NeverForget911. And some companies posted very tasteful messages. Others, like Yucatan Guacamole, basically turned the twin towers into a giant billboard.

Now, it’s kind of a double edged sword for brands. These companies should be allowed to show patriotism but at the same time, it’s kind of disgusting use 9/11 to plug a product. For instance… Are you kidding me Beanie Babies?!
