Tiger Woods Drops Sean Foley, Twitter Calls For Butch Harmon’s Return

Tiger Woods announced today that he will be parting ways with his swing coach Sean Foley.

Woods and Foley have worked together since 2010. The former number one golfer started his career with Butch Harmon and worked with him until 2004 when he hired Hank Haney.

Woods released a statement on his website. Woods writes: “I’d like to thank Sean for his help as my coach and for his friendship … Sean is one of the outstanding coaches in golf today, and I know he will continue to be successful with the players working with him. With my next tournament not until my World Challenge event at Isleworth in Orlando, this is the right time to end our professional relationship.”

This hasn’t been a great season for Tiger Woods. According to Golf.Com, he had his second worst round of his major career this year at the British Open. Some commentators felt that the round officially signaled the end of the “Tiger Woods Era.”

Sean Foley said: “My time spent with Tiger is one of the highlights of my career so far, and I am appreciative of the many experiences we shared together … It was a lifelong ambition of mine to teach the best player of all time in our sport. I am both grateful for the things we had the opportunity to learn from one another, as well as the enduring friendship we have built. I have nothing but respect and admiration for him.”

Foley wasn’t able to give Tiger Woods the comeback he was hoping for but you can’t put all the blame on the swing coach. Butch Harmon, Tiger’s original swing coach, told the Golf Channel: “In Sean’s defense, I had the easiest job in my 10 years. He was the healthiest. Sean had the hardest job.”

Woods hasn’t made any official announcement yet about Sean Foley’s replacement but many are calling on the golfer to bring back Butch Harmon.

Do you think Tiger Woods made the right move by firing Sean Foley? Do you think he’ll bring back Butch Harmon?
