Tim Burton Unveils First ‘Big Eyes’ Photos

It’s been a few years since we’ve seen a Tim Burton film has been in theaters but that will change this December with Big Eyes.

Burton, who hasn’t released a film since Frankenweenie and Dark Shadows in 2012, unveiled the first images of Amy Adams and Christopher Waltz as artist Margaret Keane and her husband Walter in the film Big Eyes.

The film focuses on Margaret Keane and her tense relationship with her husband Walter. Keane created some incredible artwork in the 1950s (see top image) but Walter was the one who initially got credit. According to Amy Adams, Walter took credit because he believed that people wouldn’t buy art from a woman.

Adams said: “Margaret really believed that as a woman, people would not buy her art … [Walter] convinced her the life they were able to lead was because the artist was a man, who could sell more art at a higher price than a woman.”

Margaret eventually went to court to take back ownership of her work but Walter insisted that he was the original artist. This led to big court battles and even “Paint-Offs” to prove who had the artistic talent to create these paintings. Margaret Keane won the court case and was awarded $4 million for her work.

Adams said: “This all seems so theatrical, like something you would design for a film. But that actually happened. Living the lie was something that weighed heavy on Margaret. But she won her name back.”

Big Eyes will hit theaters on Christmas day.
