Jeremy Meeks has had an interesting week. He became an internet sensation after he was arrested on felony weapon charges. His attractive mugshot went viral and soon the internet was calling for Meeks to take up a career in modeling. Well, Oprah is about to make that happen. The talk show host reportedly posted bail for the felon and is now working to make him the next big reality star….
Yeah, none of that stuff about Oprah is true.
The hoax started on the satire site Empire News. The article reads: “The internet was abuzz this past week when a mug shot of accused arms dealer Jeremy Meeks hit the web, making women swoon and men jealous over his movie-star good looks. Apparently all the attention Meeks has gotten since being arrested has only helped him, as billionaire actress and media mogul Oprah Winfrey has reportedly agreed to pay Meeks’ $900,000 bail, with the intent of giving him a job as a talk show host on her OWN Network.”
OK, we know that this is fake but let’s just pretend for a moment that Oprah really did post bail for Jeremy Meeks and that she is really planning on giving him his own television show. What would Meeks do? Well, Empire News has the (fake) answer.
Meeks (never) said: “I am not a doctor, so I guess I can’t really be Dr. Phil or anything. What I’ve suggested is a milder version of a Jerry Springer, where my guests are mostly cons and criminals like me, and I can maybe help them get or stay on the straight-and-narrow.”
The entire Jeremy Meeks story is kind of sad and depressing. Are people really willing to look the other way just because the guy is good looking? Do people really think that Oprah would bail this guy out of jail and give him a show? The story was shared more than 30,000 times on Facebook so I guess the answer is yes….
This is too depressing. I’m going to go read a story about cats.
