Fans of Game of Thrones have seen plenty of gory deaths over the last few scenes. People have been beheaded, skinned, impaled, poisoned… But last night’s death may have been the show’s most gruesome.
But before we get to that, let’s give the people who haven’t seen the latest episode of Game of Thrones a chance to stop reading. The rest of this article contains SPOILERS. If you haven’t seen “The Mountain And The Viper” then why are you reading this?!
OK, now that it’s just us… Can you believe what happened last night?!
The episode includes some great scenes with the Stark girls but the climax came during Tyrion Lannister’s trial by combat. Oberyn Martell has agreed to fight in Tyrion’s stead and last night he got his chance to exact his revenge.
He almost got it too.
After demanding that The Mountain admit to his past sins, Oberyn strikes a near fatal blow, leaving Gregor Clegane gasping his last breaths on the concrete. But before Oberyn gets a chance to finish him off, Clegane gets one last burst of strength and turns the tables on Oberyn.
And here’s where it gets gross. The Mountain gets on top of Oberyn, pushes his thumbs into Oberyn’s eye sockets, and squeezes until his head explodes. Literally. The man’s head exploded on TV.

Every #gameofthrones episode should come with a complimentary bottle of vodka.

OK, so we have to post one more warning before we continue. The photo of Oberyn lying next to The Mountain after his death is pretty gruesome. You should stop scrolling down if you don’t want to see it.
OK, everyone gone? Here it is.

On the bright side, we did learn an important lesson about trial by combat last night.

Did you watch Game Of Thrones last night? Was Oberyn’s death the most gruesome so far? I wouldn’t be surprised if they manage to one up themselves next week. After all, Tyrion is now scheduled to get beheaded.
