DreamWorks is expanding its business into YouTube, with news the powerhouse is to begin producing original content for the Google owned video site.
The new-content effort will be run by Brian Robbins, creator of AwesomenessTV, a Web video company that DreamWorks acquired last year according to the report at the Wall Street Journal.
Shows to be featured will include DreamWorks characters like Puss in Boots from “Shrek” in daily pieces, along with a series of live-action programs, including a hidden-camera show “Prank Your Parents” and sketch comedy show “OMG.”
The once highly successful film maker has struggled in recent years following a series of medicore movies. It’s release of the movie Mr Peabody & Sherman not only bombed at the box office, but resulted in the company delivering a first-quarter net loss of $42.9 million.
Whether recycling cartoon characters in short form content on YouTube will help turn DreamWorks around, but it’s certainly worth a shot.
