Matt Harvey bid farewell to Twitter today with one last obscene gesture. The New York Mets pitcher posted a photo of himself flipping the bird to the camera while lying in a hospital bed before surgery.
Harvey had Tommy John surgery six months ago and is likely out for the rest of this season. The pitcher marked the six month anniversary of his surgery this morning by posting the photo on Twitter.
Apparently he had second thoughts after posting the photo because he has now deleted his account. Of course, deleting your Twitter account won’t exactly delete photo. The image has been retweeted around Twitter all morning.

So what’s the big deal? He’s a professional baseball player who is about to have season ending surgery. I’d be a little middle finger happy too. So why was it necessary for Harvey to delete his entire account?
Well, the Mets player hasn’t exactly been receiving the best press lately. He’s publicly disagreed with management about the date of his return and has been spending much of his time off at parties.
Maybe it’s a good idea to take that giant social media microphone out of Harvey’s hands.
