Pedro Alvarez Trends On Twitter During Big Night In Pittsburgh

Pedro Alvarez hit two home runs and stole a base friday night in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh Pirates slugger Pedro Alvarez bashed two home runs and stole a base to earn a spot trending on Twitter Friday night.

With the Cardinals in town to play the Pirates, Alvarez made sure Pittsburgh’s division rival felt the sting of playing in his house.

The big night for Alvarez started with a soaring home run in the second inning. The solo shot gave the Pirates a 1-0 lead.

Two innings later he did it again. Another solo shot for a 2-0 Pirate lead. Later in the inning Travis Ishikawa hit his own solo home run to give Pittsburgh a 3-0 lead.

Pedro Alvarez wasn’t satisfied with two solo home runs though. The big man decided to put a cherry on his cake by stealing a base. In his four-year career he now has five steals. Pretty impressive, right?

According to Twitter, yes.

With Pedro Alvarez on fire, the Pirates are off to a hot start this season, taking two out of three from the Cubs. With a win Friday they will be 3-1 and stand alone atop the NL Central.

I know it’s only the beginning of the season, but the strong start has to feel good after one winning season in the last 21.

Without Pedro Alvarez the Pirates would be having a rough time. Defending NL MVP Andrew McCutcheon is off to a slow start, so who knows where Pittsburgh would be without its big third baseman.
