Viral marriage proposals have kind of become a thing lately, and one of the most entertaining things about the phenomenon is the new guy’s need to out-do the last guy who got millions of hits with his crazy plot to pop the question to his girlfriend. That said, someone’s going to have a hell of a time outdoing a staged pull-over and arrest.
Matt Van Vliet and his girlfriend Samantha Labo were pulled over in a “routine traffic stop” last fall that went south when the police told Van Vliet that he had a warrant out for his arrest and asked him to step out of the car. They cuffed him, they searched him, Labo was bawling her eyes out, and then the cops pulled something out of his pocket … a ring.
Ta-da! Van Vliet had staged the whole thing.
According to CNN, the couple met “when they were arrested at an underage drinking party in their freshman year at Colby-Sawyer College.” So that’s how he knows the cops.
