Lake Michigan Is Ice Balls [Video]

This month’s punishing cold snap/polar vortex/ass-cold air/whatever you want to call it, has turned out a handful of pretty neat science experiments and natural phenomena.

Though everyone basically agrees that “fuck it’s cold,” a select few are all “oooh, science.” Among those few is this YouTuber who posted this awesome/bizarre video of “ice balls” rolling around the shore of Lake Michigan. Per the video’s description:

“Ice boulders have returned to Lake Michigan in Glen Arbor. The giant ice balls form in just-below-freezing water and start as small chunks of ice. The boulders grow layer-by-layer, getting shaped the waves before washing up on Lake Michigan shore.”

Neat! Check out the Lake Michigan ice balls video above.
