Over the past few years, Twitter has turned into the place to go when searching for breaking news and talking about huge events, from the Super Bowl blackout and the royal baby to the Boston Marathon bombings and the death of Cory Monteith.
For the close of 2013, the social networking site took a moment to look at the Year on Twitter, including top tweets and most memorable moment. Among the millions and millions of tweets sent out each year, The Golden Tweet stands out. It is the one that resonated most with users around the world.
This year, the honor goes to Lea Michele and her first public acknowledgement of her partner and co-star Cory Monteith. It was retweeted more than 408,000 times from 133 countries.

In its blog about the year in review, Twitter noted that there were two other tweets that also commanded a mass of attention. One was sent by Paul Walker’s staff and announced news of his death. The third celebrated One Direction band member Niall Horan’s 20th birthday.
