Bing Maintains Access To Twitter Firehose Feed, Renews Contract After Four Years

Bing and Twitter Renew Firehose Feed Contract

Microsoft on Friday announced that its Bing search service has renewed its contract with Twitter. Based on a short three sentence announcement it looks as if Bing will maintain full access to the Twitter Firehose Feed.

In a message to TechCrunch a Bing representative reveals:

“The past four years partnering with Twitter have been great, and we’re excited to continue that relationship in order to help deliver the best possible search experience.”

Bing has been pushing incredibly hard to ensure that social search becomes a cornerstone of its search strategy. Microsoft maintained a close relationship with Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Quora, Foursquare, Klout, and other networks. Bing search results use semantic results by way of a social sidebar.

Bing recently changed its design to feature two columns instead of three. With only two columns its social sidebar is now more prominent than ever.

Twitter began offering public access to its firehose feed of data in 2010 but only to approved content providers and data collectors. Bing search competitor Google also rents access to the full Twitter firehouse feed.

It is not clear at this time if the contract will extend for the same four year term as the original partnership.
