Nate Silver is a master of statistical analysis. He can take a set of data and, with amazing accuracy, predict the outcome of an event. But statistics have nothing to do with his World Series prediction.
Silver picked the Detroit Tigers purely because he’s a fan of the team.

Silver, who will be launching a new site next year called FiveThirtyEight.com, talked to a group of writers today about the importance of numbers and facts. Silver gave an inspiring speech about journalistic integrity and dropped truth bombs like: “Let’s say fewer things but be more correct about them.” At the end of his speech, Silver put all of his integrity, smarts, and wisdom into his back pocket and answered a baseball question from his heart. The Detroit Tigers will win the World Series.
Nate Silver has the Tigers winning the World Series because he “feels it in his heart.” More homerism than stats, but I’ll take it.

Silver disregarded the fact that the Tigers are one loss away from elimination. He ignored the fact that Prince Fielder hasn’t been living up to his enormous paycheck. He decided not to figure in the fact that the Red Sox will be playing at Fenway Park for game 6. Because of all of that doesn’t matter. The Detroit Tigers will win the World Series.
