Jacksonville Airport Evacuated: Twitter Updates Keep Us Informed

The Jacksonville International Airport was evacuated on Tuesday after several suspicious packages led to increased “police activity.”

Immediately following the evacuation the following tweet was delivered:

According to Jacksonville Airport Authority spokesman Michael Stewart, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office bomb squad was called to the airport to investigate the packages.

By 8:10pm ET a full “ground-stop” was ordered for the airport. Outbound flights are suspended and passengers were told to consult with their airlines to find out about alternative arrangements.

Airport officials plan to hold their next press meeting at 10:30 ET.

Not only has the Jacksonville Airport evacuation led to active participation by officials on Twitter, they are also answering questions tweets sent by concerned citizens.
