Pinterest Adds Article Pins, Not Just About Photos Anymore

Pinterest

Pinterest is moving beyond visual media, and starting today, is rolling out new article pins which better highlight shared stories from across the web.

The social network has also borrowed functionality from apps like Pocket, and you can save an article to read later.

Users can save articles to a reading list board, and customize each board to fit a specific topic.

To share an article on Pinterest, simply click on the “Pin It” button in your browser, or select the button on a site that uses it.

Articles will appear with the thumbnail image first, headline, name/source, brief snippet and a button that says “Read this on [site name].”

According to Software Engineer Jon Parise, over five million articles are shared each day.

Last week, Pinterest started testing Promoted Pins, its first attempt at ads which will appear in search results, and category feeds.
