Reddit Adds New Perks For Gold Members, Avoids Populating Platform With Ads

Reddit Gold Added Membership Benefits

Reddit has announced new benefits for Gold members. The move allows the giant social network to further monetize its platform while avoiding ads that may drive users away.

Reddit Gold members can now take advantage of exclusive offers which are offered via the site’s retail partners. Those deals including everything from urban gardening accessories at Urbilis to food specials from Goldbely.

The social giant is also using its clothing retail partnership with Uniqloto to launch a “Golden Tikkit” incentive program. Under the Golden Tikkit program a randomly selected Reddit Gold member will be chosen each week to win a prize. Users have 24 hours to claim their Reddit prize.

There are already a ton of benefits for Reddit gold members including a hidden subreddit. Gold members can also try out Reddit’s new multireddits in beta form. Reddit

Gold is very inexpensive at just $4 per more or $40 per year. Oftentimes Reddit users will gift a Reddit Gold membership to members who make noteworthy comments.

Reddit CEO Yishan Wong said in November 2012 that Reddit Gold was thought up as an alternative to running more ads. Reddit needs the cash to pay for a huge amount of traffic which in November 2012 was up to 46 million unique visitors who were generating 3.8 billion pageviews per month.

With Reddit Gold receiving new benefits the platform could allow the social giant to cover hosting and employee costs while keeping ad hating users at bay.

Are you a Reddit Gold member? Do you plan to sign up now that more benefits are being added to the membership option?
