If you’re a social media junkie, you might have noticed that the great conflict for social dominance sometimes reflects the epic battle for the Iron Throne in the popular HBO series Game of Thrones.
It’s not so strange a metaphor, either. You have Facebook standing in for House Baratheon, the reigning king that makes often unpopular choices, but is king nonetheless. Right behind is Twitter as House Targaryen, arguably the true king of social media and the future of Westeros (err … the Internet).
Then you have Google+ representing the Lannister family, since Google has all of the money and resources, as well as social networks like Pinterest, obsessed with flowers and pretty things like House Tyrell.
Wow, so many parallels, right? That’s exactly what HootSuite thought when they put together the below infographic based on Game of Thrones (itself based on the A Song of Ice and Fire novels written by George R. R. Martin).
They imagined social network giants as the families of Westeros. See where each ranks in the battle for social media dominance, learn their strengths and weaknesses, memorize their words, and remember: In the Game of Thrones you either win, or you’re downvoted into oblivion.
