Luol Deng Congratulates Chicago Bulls From Hospital Bed

There were a lot of memorable images from last night’s Chicago Bulls Game against the Miami Heat. There was the look of determination on Nate Robinson as he drove to the hoop one last time in the final seconds of the fourth quarter. There was the look of shock and defeat and the faces of LeBron James and Dwyane Wade as they walked off the court. And then there was the image above, far away from the Miami Court, showing Luol Deng looking on in amazement as his teammates conquered all odds.

The Chicago Bulls have been decimated by injuries and illnesses this year. Derrick Rose, last year’s MVP, has been sidelined the entire year. Kirk Hinrich has missed the last few games due to a bruised calf. Joakim Noah has been fighting through plantar fasciitis throughout the playoffs. And last night, just because the Bulls can’t seem to play a game without someone getting hurt, Nate Robinson was taken off the court to get 10 stitches in his mouth.

But somehow, the Bulls prevailed. They beat the heat without Hinrich, without Rose, and without Luol Deng.

Deng has been in and out of the hospital since Game 6 against the Brooklyn Nets. Deng had a spinal tap to make sure that he didn’t have meningitis and has been in and out of the hospital since then with headaches and flu-like systems.

Despite that, Deng was criticized for missing Game 6 and Game 7 of the Brooklyn Nets series. People just didn’t seem to understand how ill Deng really was.

People just didn’t seem to realize how sick Deng really was.

Deng is questionable for Game 2 but you can bet that if he’s able to play he’ll be out on the court.
