If you’re a zombie fan, stop what you’re doing right now and watch the best short zombie film we’ve ever seen. Hell, it’s one of the best amateur short films period we’ve ever seen.
The film is titled Cargo, and it chronicles the short journey of a single father (who has been bitten by a zombie) as he attempts to save his infant daughter’s life.
The film was directed by Ben Howling and Yolanda Ramke, and was a finalist in Tropfest Australia 2013.
It’s actually a pretty interesting take on the zombie genre, underscoring the emotional drama and humanity that we remember from early episodes of The Walking Dead before it turned into The Walking Genre Caricature (Sorry, I have comic fan bitterness).
Also, Cargo doesn’t seem to have any of that weird, amateur short film awkwardness. You know how it is. Cast and crew have the best of intentions, and boy do they pour their hearts and souls into it, but you just can’t forget the fact that you’re watching an amateur short film.
Anyway, here’s Cargo for your viewing pleasure. Let us know what you think of this bittersweet zombie romp in the comments below:
