Just how much is a Facebook fan worth? Most companies know that social networking sites like Facebook are important to building their brand, but the ROI of Facebook advertising has never been exactly clear. But new research from UK internet data analysis company, Hitwise, has determined just how much a Facebook fan is worth.
According to Hitwise, a Facebook fan is worth 20 visits to your website per year.
“The figure of 1 fan = 20 extra visits to a website uses a unique methodology that combines Hitwise data with data from Techlightenment.
“We took the top 100 retailers ranked in the Hitwise Shopping and Classifieds category and benchmarked visits to those websites against the number of fans those brands had on their Facebook page. We then also looked at the propensity for people to search for those retail brands after a visit to Facebook using our Search Sequence tool.”
It’s hard to argue against Facebook’s influence.
Earlier this week ComScore released a new report showing that Facebook was the third most visited site, next to Google and Microsoft, with 714 million visitors per month. Facebook may have had 300 million less visitors than Google per month, but users spent the most time on the social networking site. According to ComScore, users spent more than 250 billion minutes on Facebook in May.
