Zynga Shuts Down PetVille, 10 Other Games

In an attempt to cut costs at his faltering social gaming behemoth Zynga CEO Mark Pincus has announced plans to shutter 11 of the company’s worse performing games.

Effectively immediately the company’s closed titles include:

PetVille – Shut down December 30th
Mafia Wars 2 - Shut down December 30th
FishVille – Shut down December 5th
Vampire Wars – Shut down December 5th
Treasure Isle – Shut down December 5th
Indiana Jones Adventure World – Closed to new players, shuts down January 14th
Mafia Wars Shakedown – Pulled from app stores
Forestville – Pulled from app stores
Montopia – Shut down December 21st
Mojitomo – Pulled from app stores
Word Scramble Challenge – Pulled from app stores

In the past Zynga launched games on the regular, never worrying about over-extending itself, however in 2012 users largely abandoned Zynga games in favor of other popular mobile developers. The company also faltered when it spent hundreds of millions to purchase OMGPop and its popular Draw Something! app which quickly fell out of favor with users.

At the time of this posting Zynga’s share price is down 3.52 percent to $2.33 from its $10 IPO price a year ago.

The social gaming network still offers more than 30 titles across various desktop and mobile platforms.
