Officially begun, production has. Filming on the new Star Wars movie officially started today. Bad Robot, J.J Abrams’ production company, posted an image from the set on Twitter this morning.
But don’t get too excited. It isn’t a photo of Han Solo or Chewbacca or R2D2. The behind-the-scenes photo simply shows the clapper on the first day of shooting.

OK, you can get excited. That’s pretty awesome.
The majority of Star Wars Episode VII will reportedly be shot in London. The sand in the photo, however, seemingly confirms the rumor that the opening scenes will be shot in Abu Dhabi.
That might still be true but it looks like J.J. Abrams may be filming in multiple locations today. The Star Wars Twitter account sent out another photo this morning saying that filming has started at Pinewood Studios.

This is the first behind the scenes look at the set of Star Wars Episode 7 but it isn’t the first look at the cast. Last month, Disney released an image showing Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and the rest of the cast sitting down to read through the script.
Plot details aren’t known yet but we do know that the original stars of Star Wars (including Chewbacca, C3p0 and R2D2) will be returning for the new movie.
