The official Reddit Gifts for the Troops campaign received the support of a big celebrity name on Monday when Comedy Central funnyman Stephen Colbert announced he would be the programs first gift giver or “santa.”
The initiative is part of the RedditGifts program which allows users to swap goods with each other in a secret-santa type of program. Redditgifts have ranged from DVDs and letter to DVD players and Laptops.
Launched on Monay the troops gift exchange was joined by Stephen Colbert after he became impressed by Reddit’s ability to raise $100,000 in less than eight hours during the “Restoring Truthiness” rally.
Reddit also announced on Monday that more celebrities will be joining the redditgifts for troops exchange in the future.
Signups for troops and santas begins Monday May 21, and ends June 18. Users sending care packages must ship by July 9.
